More about the event:
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is hosting the "European Forum on Science & Education for Sustainability 2020" (#EFSES2020) on 6 October 2020 as a highlight of the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The forum will be held in an interactive digital format live from Berlin and opened by Anja Karliczek, Minister for Education and Research. The aim of #EFSES is to develop concrete proposals on how to shape an innovative and sustainable Europe through research and education. The panel discussion will centre around the questions on how we can scale sustainable innovations and how behavioural change can lead to a sustainable Europe. The key topics of the workshops will be climate change, social inequality, education for sustainable development and the circular economy, which represent some of the most important challenges of our time. The proposals resulting from the workshops will provide fresh impetus for the European programmes Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, because of the important role that is attributed to research and education in reaching the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals could be turned into great opportunities for Europe's future through numerous initiatives of the EU Member States and the European Commission (e.g. the European Green Deal). In the context of the coronavirus pandemic and the abovementioned challenges, it is more important than ever for us Europeans to act and shape our future together. Only joint action will help us build a strong and sustainable Europe. #EFSES2020 will therefore bring together a diverse group of experts from across Europe, including experts and stakeholders from politics, administration, science, education, industry and civil society, as well as representatives of the European Commission and Member States, to discuss how an innovative and sustainable Europe may be shaped through education and research.
