Veranstaltungsreihe Berliner Brasiliendialoge – Brasilien im multiplen Krisenmodus | 1.12.2020 - 16.02.2021

The title refers to the organization of the event in the context of the cooperation between Germany and Brazil. Furthermore, the series of events embodies the widespread unease felt by the German and international public about current developments in Brazil after the successful phase of democratization that dates back to the 1990s.

Date: 1.12.2020 - 16.02.2021

Time: 18:00 - 20:00 Uhr

Eventtitle: Veranstaltungsreihe Berliner Brasiliendialoge – Brasilien im multiplen Krisenmodus

Eventtype: Sonstige

Eventcategory: Förderprojekt BMBF

Organisor: Maria Sibylla Merian Centre Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America (mecila)

Place: Online, Live-Stream-Veranstaltung

More about the event:

Brazil is currently going through several simultaneous crises: Politically, the growth of right-wing extremism is putting increasing pressure on democratic institutions and democratic coexistence. In economic terms, the stagnation that has persisted since 2015 is being consolidated by the political trivialization of the pandemic and the resulting uncontrolled spread of the corona virus. In ecological terms, deliberate relaxation of environmental regulations and a targeted weakening of environmental protection institutions are leading to an unprecedented ecological crisis. These multiple crises are mutually dependent and deepening, while the country is being led ever deeper into an almost dystopian impasse.

Das Format

The title of the event series "Berlin Brazil Dialogues" refers on the one hand to the organization of the event within the framework of the cooperation between Germany and Brazil and to its consolidation in Berlin. On the other hand, the series of events embodies the widespread unease felt by the German and international public about Brazil's current developments following the successful phase of democratization that dates back to the 1990s.

The nine sessions of the series of events planned include panel discussions and keynote speeches with commentary or co-lectures.
