How has the pandemic changed our society, how can negative effects be mitigated and what lessons can be learnt for the future from the experience of the pandemic? Well-founded empirical research in the humanities and social sciences is needed to answer these questions. 18 projects in the humanities and social sciences are therefore addressing the many challenges caused by the pandemic as well as the social problems exacerbated by the coronavirus crisis.
Some projects focus on measures taken in response to the crisis and their effectiveness. Others focus on the need for institutional renewal and show how the resilience of institutions can be increased. On the basis of their research findings, all of them are also developing solutions for future, comparable crisis events. Overall, their basic research will produce findings that can be utilised by politicians, society and the public and thus contribute to sustainable renewal.
