Converting my hobby into my vocation, I have spent most of my adult life probing the social life of the Indian paper wasp Ropalidia marginata. Today I will give a bird’s eye view of our adventures and our discoveries while hoping to convey our love for the wasps and the excitement my students and I have experienced on this journey.
Raghavendra Gadagkar is the DST Year of Science Chair Professor at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has devoted his professional career to researching the origin and evolution of social behaviour in wasps. Raghavendra Gadagkar has been a Non-resident Permanent Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg since 2002. This lecture is his farewell lecture after 20 years of continuous and dedicated commitment to our institute.
